Lost In A Book Tag
A few days ago I read Sara from About Little Things' answers to this tag and I loved the questions. Since I'm a massive reader but I rarely get around to doing tags, I thought I'd take some time to do this one.
1. Do you have a certain place at home for reading?
I tend to do everything in my bed, like I'm actually permanently attached to my bed, so that's where I'm most likely be found reading.
2. Where do you like to read?
I tend to read in bed before I go to sleep, but if it's a book for school I might be at my desk because I'll be writing an essay about it as well.
3. Bookmark or random piece of paper?
I'm slightly chaotic in my day to day existence and so I lose things so often that train-tickets, receipts, post-it notes, and random scraps are used way more often as bookmarks. I kinda like that though because I tend to leave them in the book as well, and whenever I go back and get a book or re-read it I know exactly where I was and what I was doing when I was reading it.
4. Can you just stop reading or do you have to stop at a chapter?
I can stop and pick back up whenever. It doesn't really bother me. If a book really captures me though I'll read it all in one sitting or quite quickly so it doesn't bother me to stop on a random page.
5. Do you eat or drink whilst reading?
I can eat and do anything, so if I'm peckish and I'm reading I'll definitely eat. I try not to drink because I'm so clumsy that all drinks are likely to get spilled and the book would have to spend a day or two on the radiator.
6. E-reader or real book?
Either. I think it's much nicer having a book shelf and physically tuning pages, but I love my kindle for travelling, so I probably use it more. I've also taken to reading more on Wattpad on my phone these days so I'm normally scrolling away, even though I've always got hundreds of actual books around me.
7. Music or TV while reading?
It doesn't bother me, because I'll normally get so caught up in a book that everything else is ignored. Music is more likely than the TV, especially if I'm on the train or travelling in general because it's easier to tune out one sound than hundreds of little sounds and focus on the book.
8. One book at a time or several at once?
I was going to say one at a time, but technically I read several at once, like I'll have a book on my bedside, books on my phone and more on my kindle. It just depends. On Wattpad, most books are still in progress, so I'll read updates when they come, and be reading other things in the meantime.
9. Reading at home or everywhere?
Everywhere. I probably get more reading done when I'm out and about because at home there's always loads to do, but it depends the length of the journey I guess. I can read wherever I am.
10. Reading aloud or silently in your head?
Silently! It's weird to me to read out loud, unless I'm reading with kids or something which I've had to do a lot this past year. I actually didn't mind that, but if I'm reading for myself I'm a quick reader and so I always read silently.
11. Fiction or non-fiction?
Fiction is more likely, but I also love reading non-fiction history books and people's memoirs. It's an interesting glimpse into someone else's reality, while fiction is a pretend version of that.
12. Do you read ahead or skip pages?
Nah, that ruins all the fun. I read very quickly though, so I'm accused of being a skim reader, but I always take it in, so I don't need to skip pages.
13. Break the spine or keep a book like new?
Depends on the book! I don't mind breaking the spine at all, but some books are so small and pretty that it's daft to break the spine and I'll keep them like new. I have a mix of books that look brand new and books that look like they've been thrown off a cliff and into a black hole.
14. Do you write in your books?
I only write in books I'm reading for school. Partly because I'm lazy and want to keep reading, not stop and write, and partly because I like keeping my books neat.
15. Your favourite book?
I actually don't have an answer for that. There's so many. I have childhood favourites, and favourite genres and authors favourites because I just read them like yesterday and I'm madly in love. But pinpointing just one is way too hard.
I tag everyone reading this to answer the questions as well if you want to. Or you can leave me your answers in the comments, I'd love to hear from you!
