We Need To Take Chances

If there’s something in your life that’s pulling at you, that’s poking you, that’s jabbing you in the ribs with this sort of go-for-it type of feeling, you need to go for it.

It’s as simple as that.

Sometimes life gives us these opportunities—ones that we may have wished for, or ones that we never saw coming—but we get this feeling that we should follow them, that we should take a chance, that we should just jump in. And we should.

Some opportunities only come once. Some opportunities are terrifying, but will change our lives for the better. And some opportunities are just meant to be taken to help us grow, even if they don’t end up being as wonderful as we once thought they were.

Life is a learning process. It’s one big circle of confusion and mess and happiness and despair. Things go great, then they go south. Life isn’t always going to go our way, but that doesn’t mean that we should let opportunities pass us by and live our lives looking back. It doesn’t mean that we should be passive, letting things happen to us without taking control.

And it doesn’t mean that we should be scared to jump on the chances we’ve been given. Because taking a chance is always, always better than watching life pass you by.

Here’s the thing with taking chances: they’re called ‘chances’ for a reason. Chance means that there’s a chance things won’t go your way, no matter how perfect you try to be. Chance means there’s a chance you will fall flat on your face, the guy or girl you’re trying to pursue will turn you down, the dream job will absolutely suck, the new flat might be in the worst location, or your new friends will treat you like crap, or hundreds of other things that won’t be perfect because life isn’t perfect.

But it’s still infinitely better to take a chance than to wonder what if.

So if there’s something you’re questioning, something that’s been nagging in your mind, something that’s been pulling at the strings in your heart, know this: there’s a reason you feel so compelled to do something, and after careful consideration, you should do it.

Life’s too short not to take chances for things and people you feel passionately about. Life’s too short to not pursue your strong emotions, your dreams, or what you feel in your heart. What’s the worst thing that can happen? You fail? You feel stupid? You end up alone? You get the answer ‘no’ when you were wishing for a ‘yes’?

Well then you start over, you pick yourself up, you continue again, and you learn. But you never stop taking chances, because that’s what this life is all about.

  1. I definitely have a lot of what if's moments. In fact my life is a 99.9% what if list. I often wonder what if I would have given that hug to my crush when he asked for it instead of running away? would we be a item now? am I ready to be in a relationship?
What if I haven't written that ournal page about my stepmother? Would I still be living with her and be miserable still?
Sometimes that is all I ever think about but like you said , life doesn't always turn out how we want it to and we don't always know the answers to things or how they will end about. Looking back I definitely regret a lot of the chances I missed but I am also thankful for some of the actions I took because they got me where I am today.
