Three Years Is A Long Time
Dear A Portrait Of Youth,
Three years ago, a giddy sixteen year old halfway through her fourth year of high school started a blog she titled Woebegone. Today, an eighteen year old girl in India reads through the archives of a blog called A Portrait Of Youth and she can hardly believe that once upon a time she was that giddy sixteen year old with a little bob of blonde hair. I've changed your name, what? about six times since then? I'm not entirely sure, but you've stuck by me anyway. Over the past 36 months - months filled with hard-work, adventures, name-changes, romance and moves across the world- you have seen an anxious, unsure and stubborn sixteen year old girl grow into a confident, excited and determined eighteen year old.
Three years have come and gone so quickly, don't you think? Yet, I am so, so utterly thankful for every single moment of the past three years. Moments I might not even remember had it not been for you. Reading you back all this time later, it astounds me how easily you can transport me back to those strange, confusing and wonderful days of adolescence. Reunite me with my sixteen-year-old soul. A lot has changed since then. I've fallen in and out of love, I've finished high-school, I've visited countries I'd dreamed of visiting for years, I've wrote a fair few essays, been published in magazines and newspapers, started a full-time volunteering job and moved to India. Along the way I’ve travelled, loved, lost, photographed and written about much of it here. You haven't just been my blog, but you've held my heart for the past three years, and you will continue to hold it for as long as I feel I'm living a life worth writing about.

My amazing family - 1 , 2 , 3 , 4 , 5
I’m so happy I decided to start writing you and delighted that, although it was originally meant only for my recollections and for my family and friends, other like-minded souls have found their way here and like to read my ramblings. I’m more grateful than I can say and my heart really does rejoice every time someone takes the time to leave a comment, or send an email or simply read what we have created together. We've come a long way. One thing certainly hasn’t changed, and that’s my love of writing, taking pictures and documenting the everyday with you. So here’s to many more years together, I hope!
Happy 3rd Birthday Blog!
